Designing For the User

Designed around the use case of camping, this means product must be durable, compact, and require minimal external tools.

South Indian Filter Coffee

Filter Coffee lends itself well to the activity of camping, not only due to its warmth, but also because It doesn’t require any electricity. The user only needs the ingredients themselves. As long as the product can heat water, work as a filter, and hold a brewing compartment it will work great to make filter coffee.

South Indian filter coffee originated in the 17th century when the saint Baba Budan introduced coffee beans to Karnataka from Yemen. It is made by mixing a slow-drip decoction with hot milk and sugar, then poured back and forth between a dabara and tumbler to create its signature foam.

User Flowcharts

Focused in on both the process of making filter coffee and camping to better understand actions of the user, find design limitations, and opportunities to aid/improve the experience.

Design Inspiration

The Tiffin encompasses many of the key features required for camping gear, the stainless steel is durable and also insulates liquids well. Additionally the clamp like attachment style ensures a tight seal. The tiffin also aligns well with the drink due to their rooted culture and shared materiality

Sketching

Prototyping

Used corrugated paperboard to create models to gain a better understanding of dimensions and human interaction with the product

User Validation
